Roy Bontrager - Woodworker

Custom Furniture and Woodcraft, LLC

Roy Bontrager has lived in the Hocking Hills area for more than 46 years. He was a medical professional in the area, but has turned to woodworking, woodturning, and woodcrafts as his second and best loved avocation.

All of his work is custom-made, and he is now receiving more requests to do wood-turned and handcrafted pieces using multiple combinations of woods.  He especially enjoys making heirloom and personal items.  Currently his greatest requests are for Christmas ornaments, personal items and Cross-like pens.

Roy works with over 20 native Ohio woods and more than 25 exotic or imported woods from South America, Israel, India, Australia and Africa.  All of his work can have names personally engraved and, in some cases, additional art work.

Scenic Retreat

James and Suzanne are artists who live and work on their 80-acre farm near Ash Cave State Park. Together they search their woods for suitable downed and dead trees. James dries and turns the wood on a lathe. Suzanne paints images of the farm's flora and fauna on the bowls. The bowls provide an artistic, natural touch to a home's decor.

Rebecca Roche - Knitting

Rebecca learned to knit when she was 11 years old along with a number of other family members, and she hasn't stopped since.  To this day, her family gets together for knitting parties. She finds that knitting is relaxing and she enjoys the challenge of learning new patterns.  Since she just retired recently from her real job, she is hoping to participate in more art shows in the area.  She is also happy to take custom orders.
