Suzanne and Jim Hiser - Woodturning & Artists
Jim and Suzanne Hiser create handmade wood bowls and other wood pieces that convey the natural beauty of the Hocking Hills region and their 80-acre Secluded Retreat Farm.
The farm, located near Ash Cave State Park, is their primary source of wood. They hike their woods searching for the right downed or dead trees. Once found, they are moved to their workshop. Jim turns a piece of the wood on his lathe and.then wraps it in newspaper for three months to dry ensuring that the rough bark edges remain on the wood.
Once dried sufficiently, the piece is turned further and then sanded and sealed. Suzanne then uses acrylic paints to paint pictures of birds or flowers based on her own photographs taken in their yard.
The Hisers' woodturned bowls can be purchased at the Hocking Hills Dining Lodge on weekends. Or contact them directly at the email or phone number below.
